The Sun is Shining

The Bob Marley song which begins, “the sun is shining, the weather is sweet” followed by an exotic oboe is running through my head as I sit on my back deck enjoying an uncharacteristically warm and sunny New England winter day. March has arrived and with it comes longer days and a sun gaining height in the horizon. I can tell the season is changing when I visit my basement and see how my solar hot water system is performing. Even with the 60 foot pine trees I have in my backyard, the solar system is kicking in now at 8:30, soon to be closer to 7:00 with the arrival of day light savings time. On a sunny day, it now runs most of the day and isn’t far from producing virtually all of my family’s hot water needs for the day.
I’ve always enjoyed a nice sunny day, but knowing that I’m producing free clean energy makes it that much better!
